- It became known about the removal of portraits of Maduro in the offices of Venezuelan officials
Venezuelan officials have begun removing portraits of President Nicolas Maduro, who is under investigation in the United States, from their offices. This was reported on June 20 by RIA Novosti, citing a source close to the state authorities of the republic.
"Portraits of Maduro are beginning to be removed from the offices of officials," the agency's source said.
It is noted that instead of portraits of the Venezuelan leader, photographs of other political figures are currently not placed in the offices. At the same time, images of the president still remain on the streets of Caracas, but no new posters appear.
In May, CBS News reported that the U.S. Attorney's office was preparing new charges against Maduro due to concerns that the current prosecution was not effective enough. The new investigation began after the deportation to the United States of Alex Saab, a close business associate of Maduro and former Minister of Industry and National Production of Venezuela.
In addition, The New York Times newspaper noted in April that purges against his supporters allegedly began in the Venezuelan elites after the abduction of the country's president. It was clarified that the Venezuelan authorities are pursuing such a policy in the face of threats from the United States.
