- A section of airspace along the border with the Russian Federation was temporarily closed in Estonia
In Estonia, a section of airspace along the border with Russia in the area of the Narva reservoir and Lake Pskov-Peipsi was temporarily closed for flights due to the activity of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This was announced on June 19 by a source in the air traffic control services of the European Union.
"In the area of the section of the Estonian-Russian border running from the Narva reservoir to Lake Pskov-Peipsi, flights at an altitude of up to 1 km are prohibited due to the activity of UAVs," the source said in an interview with TASS.
The agency's source said that the reasons for the issuance of such a warning by the Estonian aviation authorities were not specified. At the same time, the notification was sent to all potential users of the country's airspace.
According to him, the restrictions were in effect until 23:59 World time on June 19 (02:59 Moscow time on June 20). It is specified that in order to operate flights in the specified area, it was necessary to obtain a special permit from the Estonian police and border guard service. At the same time, agencies could use the area to fly their own drones.
On June 3, the Estonian State Television and Radio ERR reported that the authorities of Estonia and Latvia had declared a threat regime to the airspace due to the detection of unmanned aerial vehicles over the Baltic republics. The Estonian Defense Forces have sent notifications to residents of Ida-Virumaa, Lyaene-Virumaa, Tartumaa, Jygevamaa, Viljandimaa, Valgamaa, Vyrumaa and Pylvamaa counties. The operation of Tallinn airport was not disrupted, and flights departed according to schedule.
