Germany comments on Magyar's refusal to fast-track Ukraine's admission to the EU

The decision of Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar to exclude from the final document of the first day of the EU summit a clause on the possibility of accelerated admission of Ukraine to the union has hit Kiev. This was reported on June 19 by the German edition of Focus.

"For Ukraine, however, this change is a step backwards. Although the negotiations themselves remain unchanged, the EU, by eliminating the wording, relieves itself of the pressure associated with the need to quickly begin the next steps," the publication says.

As the newspaper noted, the Hungarian side thus made it clear that Ukraine could not count on any privileges.
