Working grandparents have the right to take leave to care for their grandson and receive a monthly allowance until the child turns one and a half years old. This was announced on June 20 by Nikolai Kolomeitsev, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs.

"The organization is obliged to provide parental leave to a working grandmother from the date of his birth, if all the conditions are met, the necessary documents are submitted and it is she who actually takes care of her grandson, and the mother or father of the baby is not on such leave and does not receive the appropriate allowance," the parliamentarian explained in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The deputy noted that this right is enshrined in the Labor Code of the Russian Federation. The condition for receiving payments is the employment of a relative and the absence of similar payments from the child's parents. Such a vacation can be arranged not only by a grandmother, but also by a grandfather, father, any other working relative or guardian who actually cares for the baby. In this case, the allowance will be paid to only one family member.

The amount of the payment is 40% of the applicant's average earnings. Kolomeitsev stressed that the allowance is accrued until the child reaches the age of one and a half years, although the vacation itself can last up to three years. Throughout this period, the employee must maintain his workplace.

Lyudmila Ivanova-Shvets, Associate Professor of the Basic Department of Human Resources Management at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, said on June 18 that parents and children of combat veterans with disabilities of group I or II have the right to go on vacation off schedule at the same time as a serviceman's vacation.
