The Belarusian side, handing a note of protest to Charge d'affaires of Ukraine Ivan Novitsky, called on Kiev to promptly and severely punish those involved in the attack on a bus with children in the Bryansk region. This was announced on June 19 by Permanent Plenipotentiary Representative of Belarus to the statutory and other bodies of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Igor Nazaruk.

"We handed over a protest note on the occasion of this terrorist attack on a civilian bus with children. We demanded to thoroughly investigate this situation and bring the perpetrators to justice as quickly and as harshly as possible," TASS quoted him as saying.

Nazaruk stressed that the attacked vehicle had a designation — the sign "children" — and was moving accompanied by another car. A total of 88 people went on vacation, one of whom died. The victim turned out to be the wife of one of the coaches accompanying the young athletes. The permanent representative of Belarus clarified that the deceased was pregnant.

He called the attack on the tourist convoy "a monstrous violation of all international conventions" and an attempt to involve Minsk in an international conflict.

Militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked a bus carrying a children's football team from Gomel to Gelendzhik on June 17. The Investigative Committee of Russia has opened a criminal case on a terrorist act following the strike, and Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered urgent assistance to all those affected. The course of investigations, which were also launched in Belarus, is under the personal control of the leader of the republic, Alexander Lukashenko.

On June 19, the Permanent Representatives of the CIS countries collectively condemned the incident and recognized the injured children as targets of the Ukrainian military for terrorist ambitions. The day before, the Belarusian side had sent a protest note to the Ukrainian side, promising to raise the issue of the tragedy at meetings of the UN, OSCE and CIS.
