The number of employees of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) was forced to be reduced due to an attempt by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) disrupt the morning shift. This was announced on June 19 by the director of the facility, Yuri Chernichuk.
"We had to take some restrictive measures on the number of personnel on the site. <...> We are taking organizational and technical measures to compensate for the risks that the enemy entails by their actions," he said in an interview with the Vesti news Agency.
Cherinichuk added that the morning shift took place under "constant attacks" by drones. He stressed that despite this, the operation was completed successfully and now all the functions of the units and the site are being performed in full.
On the morning of the same day, the press service of the NPP reported that the transport workshop of the facility was subjected to a massive attack by drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It was noted that the strikes had been launched since the evening of June 18. In total, at least 14 such incidents were recorded.
On June 18, Alexey Likhachev, General Director of the Rosatom State Corporation, announced the death of a nuclear power plant employee as a result of the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacks on the satellite city of the Energodar facility. Inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency were informed about the tragedy. According to the CEO of Rosatom, the assessments of the representatives of this organization were general. Criticizing this approach, Likhachev stressed that the inspectors were telling banal truths while the attacks on the nuclear power plant continued.
