Dmitriev pointed to Trump's struggle with the distortion of information by the BBC
Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and Special presidential envoy for investment and economic cooperation with Foreign countries, asked why only US President Donald Trump is suing the British broadcasting Corporation for misrepresentation.
"Why is only President Trump suing the BBC for distorting reality?" he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twiiter).
This is how he commented on the publication of the leader of the British Restore Britain party, Rupert Lowe, who expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that the BBC does not cover the report on criminal groups in the UK. Lowe also sharply criticized the broadcaster, calling it a "vile organization."
On November 3, 2025, The Telegraph reported that the BBC had falsified the American leader's speech about the Capitol riots in 2021. According to the publication, the TV channel created the impression that Trump was encouraging riots on Capitol Hill.
Later, on November 9, BBC Director General Tim Davey announced his resignation after criticism over editing the US president's speech. According to him, the TV channel is working well, but several mistakes have been made, and as CEO he must take full responsibility. On November 15, Trump confirmed that he would sue the BBC, despite the TV company's apologies for the incorrect editing of his speech in the Panorama program.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, during the "Results of the Year" on December 19, noted the problem of unreliable coverage of information from the BBC television and radio company and suggested that the American leader was right. He also said that he did not want to "rub salt in the wounds," as these were "family matters" in the United States.
Dmitriev said on June 17 that the British media were showing indifference to the fate of rape victims and were being influenced by the government and interest groups. According to him, the media space in the UK is not independent and operates within the framework of pre-agreed information lines.
