Hungary excluded accelerated admission of Ukraine from the statement of the EU summit

Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar said that on his initiative, the item on Ukraine's accelerated accession to the EU was deleted from the final declaration of the European Union (EU) summit.

"On my initiative, the paragraph concerning speeding up the process of Ukraine's accession to the EU was deleted from the text. — Ed.)," Magyar wrote on Facebook (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

According to him, negotiations on the document lasted about four hours and were accompanied by intense discussions between the participating countries. The Prime Minister noted that the final text was agreed on the basis of previously approved formulations on Ukraine, while the document was finalized taking into account the proposals of Hungary.

Magyar said on the same day that Hungary has doubts about Ukraine's accession to the EU, and its position is shared by some other countries. He recalled that the Hungarian government approved the opening of negotiations on the first group of issues on the admission of Ukraine, since Kiev agreed to return the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia.

On the same day, the Euractiv portal reported that France and the Netherlands had blocked Kiev's accelerated entry into the EU. It was reported that Berlin's proposal for Kiev's associate membership without voting rights remains the most realistic option on the negotiating table.
