An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 was recorded off the coast of the Kuril Islands. This was announced on June 18 at the European-Mediterranean Seismic Center (EMSC).
The epicenter of the phenomenon was located 34 km south-east of the island of Shikotan, where about 3 thousand people live. The seismic event was located at a depth of 50 km.
On June 11, the Main Directorate (GU) of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Kamchatka Territory reported that a magnitude 6.0 earthquake had been registered in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Kamchatka. The seismic event occurred at a depth of 29 km.
