Pensioners are eligible to receive a tax deduction for dental treatment and prosthetics only if they pay personal income tax, since pensions themselves are not taxed. This was announced on June 18 by Senator Igor Murog.

"Employed pensioners have the right to a refund, or those who have other taxable income (for example, from renting or selling property). If a pensioner does not have such an income, working children or a spouse can apply for a deduction — provided that they paid for the treatment, the documents are issued for them, and the relationship is confirmed by certificates," he explained in an interview with RT.

According to Murog, you can claim the right to a deduction within three years from the date of the expenses. The total refund amount will depend on the category of services provided and the income tax rate.

"For expensive treatment (code "2" in the certificate), there are no limits on expenses — they will refund a percentage of the amount, but no more than the personal income tax paid for the year. For routine treatment, there is a general limit on social deductions of 150 thousand rubles per year, with a maximum refund of 19.5 thousand rubles at a rate of 13%," the senator noted.

Ekaterina Golubtsova, Associate Professor of the Department of State and Municipal Finance at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, said on June 12 that Russian citizens are entitled to monthly tax deductions for children, while the benefit is available only up to 450,000 rubles per year in excess of taxable income.
