Oncologist Violetta Purtskhvanidze in an interview with aif.ru On Thursday, June 18, she stressed that when diagnosed with CIN (cervical intraepithelial neoplasia), it is important not to panic, but to seek treatment in a timely manner.

The specialist explained that dysplasia is a change in the cells of the cervix and is not cancer, but refers to precancerous conditions. The main cause of the disease is considered to be the human papillomavirus (HPV), and with the progression of the process, the risk of developing cancer increases. According to the doctor, the tactic of simple observation in such cases can be dangerous.

Purtskhvanidze recalled that there are three degrees of dysplasia — CIN I, CIN II and CIN III, and the next stage may be cervical cancer. Therefore, you should not postpone the examination and treatment.

One of the most well—known methods of treatment remains conization of the cervix - an operation to remove a section of tissue with pathological changes. However, the doctor noted that such a procedure has its own risks and does not always eliminate the main cause of the disease, HPV.

As an alternative, the specialist called photodynamic therapy. This method allows you to affect the altered cells without removing part of the cervix, preserving the organ and its functions.
