Zakharova commented on the EU's initiative to ban entry to Russian citizens.
The countries of the European Union (EU) are already "not sure what to come up with," discussing a ban on entry into the territory of the union for Russian citizens who served in the Armed Forces of Russia after the start of a special military operation. This was announced on June 18 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"It has already reached the point of openly paranoid proposals to extend the sanctions ban on entry into the EU to all Russian citizens who served in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation after the start of their military service. They don't know what to do anymore. That's the problem," she said.
Zakharova added that EU sanctions are increasingly becoming international restrictions, causing damage to third countries. According to her, there are more and more states in the world that join in condemning unilateral restrictions.
French President Emmanuel Macron said on June 17 that the G7 countries had agreed to increase pressure on Russia. The French leader also noted that the G7 states would "continue to fight" the so-called Russian shadow fleet.
American leader Donald Trump said on June 17 that due to cheaper oil, he could resume sanctions against Russia. Earlier that day, the United Kingdom expanded the anti-Russian sanctions list by 43 positions. In particular, sanctions have been imposed against Rosgosstrakh and Yandex Bank. The new package of sanctions also includes 27 vessels allegedly linked to the Russian Federation. Canada made a similar decision to expand sanctions.
