Germany will allocate Ukraine another $400 million for armaments

Berlin is going to allocate a total of another $400 million to Kiev for the purchase of weapons under the PURL (English — Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List, List of priority requirements of Ukraine) and Jumpstart programs. This was announced on June 18 by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius before a meeting of NATO defense ministers.

"Once again, for the fourth time, we will participate <...> in the PURL mechanism. With PURL, we finance American weapons systems and provide ammunition that Ukraine urgently needs — they are a priority, but not manufactured in Europe. <...> This time we will allocate $200 million," Pistorius said.

According to the minister, his Ukrainian counterpart Mikhail Fedorov asked for support for the JumpStart program, which is mainly intended for the purchase of missiles for Patriot systems.

"We have also allocated $200 million for the purchase of these missiles," Pistorius stressed.

Yesterday, Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish national conservative Freedom Alliance party, said that Germany should change its attitude towards Russia in order to reduce tensions. In his opinion, a review of military support for Ukraine would allow Germany to avoid further escalation.

In April, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Germany had become the main sponsor of the conflict in Ukraine. According to her, the German authorities have spent more than €55 billion on the needs of the Ukrainian side.
