Russians were told about the advantages of summer job search
Many job seekers prefer to postpone their job search until September, believing that the labor market practically freezes in the summer. However, such a strategy may deprive candidates of a number of advantages. As Aygun Kurbanova, founder of the School of Career Management and president of the Association of Career Consultants, told Izvestia on June 21, the summer months often become one of the most favorable periods for employment.
According to the expert, competition among applicants traditionally decreases in June, July and August. Many professionals use this period to rest and recuperate after a busy working year, and some deliberately postpone a job change until the fall.
"If a person has been working for a long time and feels very tired, it seems logical to use summer as a period of long vacation — not two weeks, but a month or even several months to recover," Kurbanova said.
At the same time, the hiring process does not stop in the summer, although it may take longer. The expert explained that this is due to the holiday season: not only recruiters may be absent, but also heads of departments involved in approving candidates. As a result, the deadlines for closing vacancies are often doubled. However, companies continue to recruit staff.
The need for new employees persists regardless of the season: vacancies open due to layoffs, project launches, business expansion, or the need for urgent replacement of specialists. Therefore, some positions are closed in the standard mode, despite the summer period.
Kurbanova called the reduction of competition one of the key advantages of summer job search. If hundreds of responses can come to a vacancy during the high season, then in the summer their number is noticeably lower. According to the expert, instead of about 500 resumes, employers can receive about 200, which increases the chances of candidates being noticed.
Another advantage is faster adaptation to a new location. By the beginning of the autumn business season, the employee already manages to get used to the team and get involved in the work processes.
The expert also stressed that it is important to take into account the specifics of the industry. In a number of areas, preparations for peak workloads begin in advance: educational organizations strengthen teams before the school year, and companies focused on New Year's demand form staff in the fall.
At the same time, there are areas where the demand for staff is growing in the summer. These include tourism, hospitality, catering, retail, logistics, event management, and children's recreation.
Kurbanova advises applicants to remain active and carefully approach the responses, adapting resumes and cover letters for each position. According to her, this makes it more profitable to stand out from other candidates. The expert also recommends using professional connections: recommendations from company employees can speed up the candidate review process. In addition, you should not ignore the vacancies posted a few weeks ago. Due to the holiday period, recruitment may be delayed, so such offers remain relevant longer than usual.
CEO of the Job search and Employee Recruitment service GdeRabota.ru Ekaterina Agayeva told on April 7 in which areas there will be a steady demand for specialists in the coming years. According to her, engineering and labor specialties will keep their jobs. There is a shortage of specialists in these areas, and in the coming years, most likely, it will not be possible to overcome the shortage of personnel. Robotics specialists will also be in demand.
