- The Ministry of Internal Affairs revealed malware disguised as "anti-virus from cyber police"
The scammers are distributing malicious software under the guise of the "official antivirus" of the Russian Cyber Police Bulletin channel. This was announced on June 18 by the Department for Combating the Illegal Use of information and Communication Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
"The attackers mention the Russian Interior Ministry and promise functions for checking websites, detecting fraud, and protecting devices. A similar scheme is being fixed under the guise of Kaspersky Lab products," the agency's channel in Maks says.
The ministry stressed that the divisions of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs are not engaged in the development of antivirus applications and do not offer to install any software through messengers, third-party websites or file-sharing platforms. Any such proposals should be considered as potentially dangerous.
The Interior Ministry recommended downloading software only from official app stores and developer websites. Citizens were also reminded of their responsibility for developing and distributing malware.
"Practice shows that online anonymity is often temporary, and meetings with law enforcement officers are inevitable," the Interior Ministry concluded.
The expert of the "Popular Front. Analyst Galaktion Kuchava reported on June 18 that fraudsters create fake websites and channels in messengers, where they offer users supposedly scarce train tickets. He clarified that scammers take advantage of the rush of passengers who urgently need to purchase tickets, and require payment to an individual's card or through fake payment systems.
