In Primorsky Krai, the 2026 bathing season will begin almost two weeks earlier than normal. Boris Kubai, head of the Primorsky Hydrometeorological Center, told PrimaMedia about this.

According to him, the reason for the non-standard timing is the early warming of the water, which was influenced by the El Nino phenomenon that formed in the Pacific Ocean. Thus, the bathing season in Primorye starts 10-15 days earlier.

"Primhydromet today states that El Nino has formed and is in full swing. This has already affected our nearby waters. So, the water temperature in the Municipality is already almost above 20 degrees, in Vladivostok it is approaching this value," said Boris Kubai.

The chief weather forecaster of the region also noted that this year Primorye residents should not expect a steady and dry summer. The Pacific anticyclone is weakened and will increasingly pass cyclones and atmospheric fronts to the east.

El Nino is a natural phenomenon in which surface waters in the central and eastern parts of the equatorial zone of the Pacific Ocean are abnormally heated. It causes noticeable weather anomalies around the world, including droughts in some regions and floods in others.

On June 16, the start of El Nino was officially announced by the staff of the Australian Bureau of Meteorology. According to forecasts, it may become the strongest in modern history.
