On Wednesday, June 17, Zalim Kudaev, founder of the Teeth in One Day federal clinic network, spoke about the non-obvious problems that too frequent brushing can lead to.

According to the expert, if you brush your teeth with a high-fluoride paste three to four times a day, consume fluoridated water and products with a high fluoride content, such as tea, you can get endemic fluorosis. It is characterized by the appearance of white or brown spots on the enamel due to excessive accumulation of fluoride in the dental tissues.

Frequent brushing can also lead to allergies. It affects components such as flavors, preservatives, bleaching agents, and antibacterial agents, which are the main ingredients of the paste.

"As a result, stomatitis, swelling of the mucous membrane, and itchy gums are symptoms that are rarely associated with excessive hygiene," Kudaev explained in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

The specialist noted that there is a risk of getting dysbiosis of the oral cavity, since the flora that is destroyed by antibacterial components includes not only harmful, but also beneficial bacteria.

He added that major systemic failures of the body can also occur.

"For example, frequent brushing with a paste, especially an alkaline one, changes the acid-base balance in the mouth. The body compensates for this by producing acid in the stomach, which can cause heartburn. And also, when you swallow saliva with the remains of the paste in large quantities, the intestinal microbiome may be disrupted," Kudaev concluded.

On the same day, the dentist and co-owner of the Clinic of Dr. Omarov Shamil Omarov said that the toothbrush must be changed every three months, reports 360.ru .

The average bill of Russians for dental services has increased by 38.2% since the beginning of 2026 and reached 12,851 rubles. The services of doctors and orthodontists accounted for 18% of all expenses in this area, which provided the category with the largest growth dynamics, NSN reports.

Kirill Polyakov, Candidate of Medical Sciences, dentist and surgeon at Naudent Dentistry, reported on June 9 that some foods may be more dangerous to tooth enamel than regular sugar. He noted that dried fruits, including raisins, dates, dried apricots, and prunes, are often perceived as a healthy alternative to sweets, but they pose a risk to teeth.
