One of the largest and most famous museums in the world, the French Louvre, is in critical condition, as its entire infrastructure has become rapidly obsolete. This was announced on June 17 by the director of the cultural institution, Christophe Leribo.

"Let's face it: despite all the greatness, despite the daily work of the museum team, the Louvre is on its last legs," Le Figaro newspaper quoted him as saying.

Now in the Louvre, as specified in the material, the roof is leaking and the escalators are not working, and the power supply system requires serious intervention at all — equipping with more modern elements. The team providing his work, according to the head of the Louvre, stands "at a crossroads", not daring to begin, while the list of problems continues to increase.

Leribo clarified that his staff are worried about the safety of the exhibits, since the climate control system, as well as the temperature and humidity regime, are maintained irregularly. This fact forces them to move collections from one pavilion to another. For example, 10 thousand ancient Greek vases were rearranged.

The Louvre, according to its director, is facing financial problems, as it has managed to reach the "investment ceiling", and the money allocated to it is arriving with delays.

Art critic Leribo, who was previously responsible for the Palace of Versailles, was appointed to the post on February 25 after the scandal at the Louvre that erupted over the "daring" robbery in October 2025. Then he set himself the task of bringing the museum out of crisis.

At that time, the Louvre itself had repaired the effects of a major water leak, which forced the management to close several exhibition halls. On December 15, 2025, the Reuters news agency reported on an indefinite strike by museum employees who opposed the increased workload.
