Ex-senator of the Russian Federation assessed the results of the G7 summit in France
Andrey Klimov, ex-senator of the Russian Federation and member of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, in an interview with aif.ru On Wednesday, June 17, he criticized the G7 summit, which is taking place in France from June 15 to June 17.
The expert called the meeting a "gathering of losers," noting that many of its participants face internal political problems and declining support from voters — all have no more than 20%.
Klimov also commented on the statement by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz about the appearance of the "first chance for peace" between Russia and Ukraine. According to the expert, such statements are related to the growing demand from a part of German society to end the conflict and restore normal relations with Russia.
"There was a chance back in the days of the Minsk agreements, which Germany personally buried. The chances of peace kept coming up, but the West is drowning them. London gave Kiev the command to continue fighting. There were dozens of chances for peace, but the West not only did not take advantage of this, but did everything so that no one could interfere with them," he concluded.
Earlier on June 17, French journalist Vincent Hervue said on the CNews TV channel that the leaders of the G7 countries gathered at the summit, which is taking place in Evian, are "losers." According to him, the popularity of a number of G7 leaders has noticeably decreased. He noted a drop in the ratings of Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni, IA Regnum reports.
At the same time, the Swiss portal Schweiz heute reported that US President Donald Trump defiantly ignored Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky at the G7 meeting. Zelensky himself appealed to the European Union with a demand for the republic's admission to the union in an expedited manner. Other leaders rejected this request, fearing that it could undermine the process of expanding the bloc based on the merits of the candidates. 360.ru .
The Ukrainian leader was invited to the meeting by French President Emmanuel Macron, hoping to establish contacts between Russia and Ukraine, writes NSN. The American leader himself was late for a meeting with the leaders of the "Big Seven", calling himself the boss, writes RT.
Also on June 17, the Elysee Palace released a video from the G7 summit to the Russian song "Capybara". The commentators under the video laugh at the musical preferences of the French and ask for a salary increase for the person responsible for choosing the music for the video.
The G7 summit is taking place from June 15 to 17 in the French city of Evian-les-Bains, the website notes kp.ru .
