The former head of the city of Oboyan, Sergey Karelov, died as a result of a strike by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region. This was announced on June 17 by the governor of the region, Alexander Khinstein.

"According to updated information, Sergey Ivanovich Karelov was killed today as a result of a barbaric strike by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Oboyan. He was 63 years old. Sergey Ivanovich is an outstanding man in every sense. Former head of Oboyan, ex-deputy of the regional Duma, honorary worker of general education of the Russian Federation," he wrote in the Maks messenger

Khinstein noted that Karelov taught history at the eight-year Kosinovo school for a long time, and later became the director of the Oboyansk school No.2. The governor noted Karelov's special character. He added that everyone knew and respected the former mayor of the city.

The head of the region expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

On the same day, Khinstein reported that as a result of a drone attack on a gas station in the city of Oboyan, one person was killed and two others were injured. In addition, the drone hit a passenger car on the Belitsa — Kommunar highway in the Belovsky district. The 56-year-old driver suffered from barotrauma.
