The Sevastopol Defense Museum announced the time frame for recreating the panorama.

The restoration of the panorama "The Defense of Sevastopol in 1854-1855" will take from four months to three years. This was announced on June 17 by Mikhail Smorodkin, director of the Sevastopol Defense Museum.

"Between four months and three years, that's about the time we're looking at," TASS quoted Smorodkin as saying.

According to him, the museum staff showed heroism during the fire and, in conditions of heavy smoke, managed to remove about 12-13 fragments of a large-area canvas. According to the director, about 30% of the panorama's plot was saved — images of people and battle scenes. Fragments of the original work by the artist Franz Roubaud, located in the museum's branch, were not damaged.

Ekaterina Malinovskaya, head of the department "History of the Crimean War of 1853-1856", did not rule out that there may still be some fragments of the canvas under the rubble.

After the UAV attack on the Sevastopol Defense Museum, the famous painting by Roubaud, which survived the German bombing during the Great Patriotic War, was damaged.

Sergei Naryshkin, Chairman of the Russian Historical Society and Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, said on June 15 that Nazism in any form is an enemy of culture, historical memory and human civilization. Thus, he commented on the recent missile attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the building of the Defense of Sevastopol panorama.

In turn, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called the incident a barbaric act and offered to pay tickets to representatives of the UNESCO secretariat in Sevastopol so that they could personally see what the Ukrainian militants had done with this work of art.
