- Rutte announced an active discussion in the EU on the resumption of dialogue with Russia
European states have begun to actively discuss the possible resumption of dialogue with Russia. This was announced on June 17 by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
Commenting on the statement by Finnish President Alexander Stubb about the need to resume contacts with Moscow, Rutte clarified that this topic "is certainly being discussed among the allies."
"You also see this discussion in the European Union, and of course the President of Finland is also involved in these discussions — both the Prime Minister and the president are involved in this. At the moment, we are not discussing this issue at the political level in NATO," he said.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said at a press conference at the G7 summit on June 16 that European countries are ready to hold peace talks with Russia to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. At the same time, he pointed out the intentions of European countries to continue and increase support for Kiev.
