The Prime Minister of Malaysia spoke about the main features of trade with Russia
The main goal in the development of trade between the Russian Federation and Malaysia is to expand energy cooperation. On June 17, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim told Izvestia correspondent Maxim Prikhod on the sidelines of the Russia-ASEAN summit.
"As I have repeatedly stressed, our position is independence and cooperation with everyone, it will benefit our people. At the same time, the central role of ASEAN will allow us to strengthen trade, attract investment, and even develop cultural ties," he said.
Ibrahim added that Malaysia could increase oil imports from Russia, and that would be a great idea. He clarified that he would talk about this with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He also answered the question of what challenges will have to be faced on the way to returning to normality after the US-Iran deal. According to the minister, this should be closely monitored not only by the United States and Iran, but also by the countries of the Persian Gulf, Arab states, and other neighboring countries.
Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said a day earlier that four joint documents were planned to be adopted at the Russia–ASEAN summit, which will be held on June 17-19 in Kazan. According to Ushakov, the main topics of the summit will be the discussion of topical international and regional issues, as well as summing up the results of 35 years of cooperation between Russia and ASEAN.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on June 6 that the Russia–ASEAN summit would show the world community the way to the future. In her opinion, the further vector of development of global processes is closely linked to the principles of multipolarity and polycentricity. She noted that the ASEAN member States were among the first to adopt a format of cooperation based on a balance of national and regional interests.
