The priest listed the main traditions of the celebration of the Walnut Savior

The Walnut Savior in the Orthodox tradition is primarily associated with gratitude to God for the past summer and the harvest. Its main traditions include prayer, participation in worship, and acts of charity. The dean of the Baltai district of the Saratov diocese, Priest Oleg Zhilyakov, told Izvestia about this.

The clergyman recalled that the Walnut Savior, which completes the series of August Rescues, has a church name — the day of the transference of the Image of the Savior Not Made with Hands.

"It is important to understand that the basis of this day is not the consecration of nuts, but the remembrance of a shrine — the Uncreated image of Christ, which is revered by the Church as evidence of the reality of the Incarnation," Zhilyakov stressed.

He noted that participation in worship remains one of the main traditions of the holiday. Believers try to start the day with a visit to the temple, confession and communion. Only after that, the fruits are consecrated — nuts, grain and bread made from flour of the new harvest.

"A person brings a portion of the harvest to the temple to testify that everything he has is a gift from God. Therefore, the consecration of fruits is not a kind of magical rite, but primarily an expression of gratitude to God for His gifts," said the priest.

Walnut Savior is also called Bread, Canvas, or Third

Zhilyakov added that field work was traditionally completed by Orekhov Spas, as well as active harvesting of food for the winter. At the same time, according to him, the Church does not attach great spiritual importance to these everyday aspects unless they are accompanied by inner reflection.

The priest also drew attention to the importance of works of mercy on the holiday. According to him, one of the ancient traditions was to share the harvest with those in need.

"If a person has the opportunity to help their neighbor, this is a genuine celebration. Without mercy, any rituals lose their meaning," he stressed.
