A network of sports and patriotic tent camps for schoolchildren has been expanded in Moscow. This year, their number has been increased from three to ten, the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, said on his personal blog.

The camps are named after famous military leaders: Zhukov, Rokossovsky, Vasilevsky, Konev, Suvorov, Kutuzov, Bagration, Nakhimov, Chuikov and Ushakov.

According to the mayor, about 13 thousand children will be able to relax in them over the summer. The students were selected to participate: they talked about their academic successes, sports, and patriotic projects, and also wrote essays on why they wanted to go to the camp.

A total of six shifts of two weeks each are planned for this season. The program was developed jointly with the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia. Under the guidance of specialists, students learn the basics of tactical, engineering, mountaineering and fire training, learn how to navigate the terrain and provide first aid.

Sports competitions, rock climbing classes, and fire rescue games are also organized for participants. In addition, the program includes film screenings, creative contests, theatrical evenings, meetings with participants of a special military operation. At the end of the shift, team field games with obstacle courses are held.

Sobyanin recalled that the project was launched last year. Then more than 4,6 thousand schoolchildren became its participants.

According to the mayor, conditions have been created in the camps for a comfortable and safe stay. The children live in tents equipped with air conditioners, heating systems and fire alarms. There are medical centers, canteens, laundries and recreation areas on site, and security is provided by security guards and video surveillance systems.
