El Pais talked about the rivalry between von der Leyen and Callas
Criticism of the head of European diplomacy Kai Kallas and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen is intensifying in the European Union (EU). The Spanish newspaper El Pais wrote about this on June 17, citing sources in diplomatic circles.
The publication notes that some diplomats compare the rivalry between Callas and von der Leyen with the "Game of Thrones". They add that a struggle has broken out in Brussels over the management of the EU's foreign policy course.
"In this war, the rivalry between von der Leyen and Kaya Callas has become more fierce," the publication notes.
The newspaper writes that dissatisfaction with the work of Callas is increasing in the EU. She is accused of being fixated on the Ukrainian conflict and not paying enough attention to the situation in the Middle East.
According to the publication, many also criticize von der Leyen, accusing her of a constant and ongoing desire to expand her influence on the EU's foreign policy.

The Financial Times newspaper reported on June 11 that Callas could be stripped of part of the powers of the head of the European diplomacy. According to the newspaper's sources, Paris, Berlin and other European capitals are considering options for revising her role in the structure of the EU's foreign policy department.
