The Russian Volna Kupol Garant system is capable of suppressing the operation of Starlink satellites by transmitting interference that interferes with the reception and processing of signals from ground users. This was announced on June 16 by Dmitry Kuzyakin, an expert in the field of unmanned aviation, General designer of the Center for Integrated Unmanned Solutions (CCDB).

"If the Starlink satellite constellation is being used to strike Russia, if citizens of our country are dying and the California company is not doing anything, then Volna Kupol Garant comes on the scene. This is a system that does not set itself the task of disrupting communication between the drone and the satellite. It sets itself the task of suppressing the work of the satellite itself. To do this, she literally blinds him on the radio with parasitic signals, making it impossible for subscribers to hear from the ground," he said in an interview with TASS.

Kuzyakin also clarified that Starlink satellites are located in orbit at an altitude of about 500 km from Earth, and the Volna Kupol Garant system is a powerful complex with a directional phased array antenna.

The expert stated that the Starlink system, originally created for civilian needs, quickly began to be used by Ukrainian drone operators to provide communications on combat drones.

According to Kuzyakin, Starlink is actually involved in the conflict on the side of Ukraine. He noted that the suppression of satellite communications on drones presents significant difficulties due to the peculiarities of the antennas and the constant movement of drones. At the same time, the expert added that Russian specialists are able to solve such problems and, if necessary, consider more radical options for influencing, including influencing the satellites themselves.
