The Moscow Exchange index fell below 2,500 points during trading.
The Russian stock market fell by more than 2% in the main trading session, falling below the key level of 2,500 points on the main index and updated the minimum since October 2025. This was confirmed on June 16 by data from the website of the Moscow Stock Exchange.
By the close of the main trading, the ruble index of the Moscow Stock Exchange fell by 2.06%, reaching 2,490.52 points. The Moscow Exchange index in yuan fell by 2.67% to 1,070.83 points, while the dollar-denominated RTS lost 1.63% to 1,087.58 points. During the day, the drop in the main index of the site reached 2475.95 points.
The drop occurred after the words of the American leader Donald Trump that the United States could restore sanctions against Russia after the resumption of oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.
On April 24, the Moscow Stock Exchange index went down following the decision of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation to lower the key interest rate. Prior to the publication of the Bank of Russia's decision, the Moscow Exchange index showed an increase of 0.21% and stood at 2,777.36 points (as of 13:25 Moscow time). However, by 13:30 Moscow time, the indicator went down to 2,761.41 points, which is 0.36% lower.
