G7 leaders agree to increase air defense supplies to Ukraine

The G7 member states intend to expand military assistance to Ukraine by increasing the supply of air defense systems and long–range complexes. This follows from a joint statement on June 16 by the G7 leaders, whose summit is being held in France.

"We have agreed to increase the supply of air defense systems, additional systems and interceptors, as well as long-range weapons. We are also ready to consider granting Ukraine licensing privileges to increase Ukraine's military production," the document says.

The G7 countries also intend to provide additional support to Ukraine's energy sector to help the country survive the coming winter.

In addition, the Group of Seven announced plans to increase sanctions pressure on Russia, including measures against the oil and gas sector.

"We are committed to increasing pressure on the Russian military economy. In this context, we will tighten sanctions, including against the oil and gas sector," the statement says.

According to the leaders of the G7 countries, the agreement between the United States and Iran on unblocking the Strait of Hormuz creates conditions for further strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia.

However, Trump may demand that the Europeans and Zelensky compromise with Russia.

On June 16, the former press secretary of Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky noted that Western politicians who "joyfully" declared at the G7 summit their readiness to continue the conflict in Ukraine could not be considered those who would resolve the situation.
