Upon returning, the owner of the item, often accompanied by an aggressive accomplice, a "witness," reports the loss of expensive equipment or a large amount of money from the luggage.

"The most common scenario is a fake theft followed by extortion. As soon as the responsive passenger agrees to help, the owner of the item departs for a while. Soon he returns, often with an aggressive accomplice acting as a "witness" and claims that an expensive gadget or a large amount of money has disappeared from the bag," Kuchava explained in an interview with TASS.

The expert noted that criminals exert severe moral pressure on a person, accusing him of theft and threatening to summon law enforcement officers. The main calculation of the scammers is based on the fact that the passenger will be afraid of police proceedings or being late for the flight, so he will agree to voluntarily give the money as compensation.
