Consequences of flooding are eliminated in a village in Kamchatka

In Kamchatka, in the village of Koryaki, Yelizovsky district, the consequences of flooding are being eliminated. Meltwater flooded the Cheryomushki farm a week ago, on June 9th.

According to the KamchatksMedia news agency, for the first time local residents reported flooding on Tuesday. The district authorities claim that they responded to these signals promptly. On Thursday, workers built a protective dam and a drainage channel. On Sunday, June 14, a second channel was laid to block the flow of water. However, there is still water in some areas.

A high-alert mode has been introduced in the territory. Specialists are working on additional technical solutions in order to completely drain the area.

The acting head of the district, Andrei Goncharov, called the safety of people an absolute priority of the authorities. According to him, the monitoring of the situation is ongoing. The authorities will immediately deploy additional forces and resources if the situation worsens. He urged residents to remain calm.

Earlier it was reported that the Hydropulse flood early warning system is being tested in the Oymyakon district of Yakutia. The purpose of her work is to quickly detect rain floods in the upper reaches of mountain rivers. It is in these areas that the surveillance networks of the Russian Hydrometeorological Service do not work so effectively. Later, when the field tests are completed, the system will be introduced to other regions of Yakutia and the Arctic territories of Russia.
