The United States may soon restore sanctions against Russia after the resumption of oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz. This was announced on June 16 by the American President Donald Trump.

"We will be able to do this soon, because oil is being supplied now. That's why we lifted the sanctions, because, obviously, we didn't want to hinder oil supplies. So we will be able to do that soon," Trump said.

At the same time, on June 11, the United States extended a permit for the supply of oil to Japan produced under the Russian Sakhalin–2 project. According to the document, the permit for operations related to the provision of services for the project is extended until December 18.

On June 5, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin noted that the preparation of new US sanctions against Russia runs counter to the statements of the American side about the prospects for cooperation with the Russian Federation. According to him, Moscow sees not just a continuation of the sanctions policy of the previous administration, but increased pressure from the current US leadership.
