All traffic police vehicles may be equipped with smart cameras in the future.

In the future, it is planned to equip all vehicles of the highway patrol service with photo- and video-recording devices that recognize license plates. Oleg Ponarin, Deputy head of the Main Directorate for Road Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, Major General of Police, told the Izvestia press center on June 16.

"Last year, we delivered more than 700 complexes to the regions of the Russian Federation, and we plan to maintain the same pace next year, including in Moscow. It accounted for a few deliveries, but nevertheless, we set ourselves the goal of equipping all traffic police vehicles with such complexes," Ponariin said.

He noted that there are different types of complexes, such as the so—called "beam" design, which is embedded in the special signals on the roof of the traffic police vehicle, and the internal location in the vehicle, which cannot be visually recognized. The second type of complexes are currently being purchased.

"A very important function is that these complexes, by recognizing registration plates, simultaneously provide us with information about the location of a wanted vehicle, and, accordingly, we can also work efficiently and efficiently on other databases of interest," the police Major General said.
