Araqchi announced a new round of negotiations with the United States
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced the signing of a memorandum with the United States and a new round of talks with Washington on Friday, June 19. This was reported on June 16 by the Iranian news agency ISNA.
"The memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States on ending the war will be officially signed on Friday, and a new round of negotiations will begin on the same day <...> to reach a final agreement," the minister said at a meeting with ambassadors and charge d'affaires of foreign states in Tehran.
The Iranian Foreign Minister indicated that the memorandum of understanding would document the end of the war between the United States and the Islamic Republic. He noted that an important point of this agreement is also the cessation of hostilities in Lebanon.
Araqchi explained that the memorandum would not be the last agreement between the two countries. According to him, after signing this document, the negotiations will last another 60 days. During this period, the countries will discuss key issues on the nuclear agenda and the lifting of sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
On June 15, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance announced that the memorandum between Washington and Tehran had been signed electronically. On the same day, US President Donald Trump announced that the waters of the Strait of Hormuz had been partially unblocked. He also noted that the United States may gradually begin lifting sanctions against Iran, provided that Tehran fulfills what is expected of it under the agreements.
On the same day, Trump said that the ships, some of which carry oil, had already begun moving along the "safe and clean" southern route of the Strait of Hormuz. He announced the imminent unblocking of this area the day before, on the day when he confirmed the conclusion of the deal with Iran and pointed out the ability to turn Washington into the "guardian" of the entire Middle East for 20% of the region's revenues.
