Vance named the number of days of free passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

The vessels will pass through the Strait of Hormuz free of charge during the 60 days of negotiations between the United States and Iran after the signing of the memorandum. This was announced on June 15 by American Vice President J. D. Vance.

"The deal says that for 60 days, while we will agree on the final agreement, access to and [exit] from the Strait of Hormuz will be free," he shared with the American television channel NBC News.

The United States expects that after the negotiations are over, passage through the strait will remain free, Vance stressed.

"During the negotiations, the question arose, what if the ship breaks down? Will there be a service charge if you have to tow the vessel? This is a completely different issue. <...> We have made it clear to them that we will not tolerate a system that involves paying for the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz," the vice president said.

Pause: Why the US-Iran deal does not guarantee peace

The agreed memorandum will unblock the Strait of Hormuz, but will not solve the problems of the nuclear program and sanctions.

Vance said on June 15 that the memorandum between Washington and Tehran had been signed electronically. On the same day, American leader Donald Trump announced that the waters of the Strait of Hormuz had been partially unblocked. He also noted that the United States may gradually begin lifting sanctions against Iran, provided that Tehran fulfills what is expected of it under the agreements.

The US Vice President also said on June 15 that the memorandum between the two countries is of a general nature, the details will be finalized during the technical stage of negotiations. He also expressed hope that the Iranian side would choose the path of closer economic cooperation.
