Sevim Dagdelen, a foreign policy expert from the German BSW party, criticized Holger Neumann, head of the German Air Force, on May 15 because of his words about NATO's plans to attack Kaliningrad in the event of a conflict with Russia.

"Oh, of course, let's follow in the footsteps of our grandfathers and go to Moscow. What can go wrong," she wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

Alexey Zhuravlev, First deputy chairman of the State Duma's defense committee, noted on the same day that Western countries would not be able to unexpectedly attack Russian territory. He also stressed that Germany's statements encourage mobilization and preparation for possible strikes and subsequent retaliatory actions.

On June 15, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called Neumann a neo-Nazi because of his words about NATO's plans to bomb Kaliningrad. Neumann himself said on the same day that in the event of a conflict with Russia, Germany would defend every inch of NATO territory.
