The insurer told about the compensation for the flooding of cars
Heavy rains and flooding, similar to those observed in Moscow since June 13, can cause serious damage to the car. It is usually covered by a hard hat policy — depending on the terms of the contract, the insurance coverage may include flooding, hurricane, falling objects, hail and other weather risks. This was recalled in an interview with Izvestia by Egor Lysoy, head of the Sberbank Insurance Retail Loss Settlement center, who told motorists about the procedure for dealing with a difficult situation.
If the vehicle is damaged, first of all it is necessary to contact the insurance company, which should provide guidance on further actions and fixing the damage, the specialist noted.
"As a rule, you will need to take photos from different angles: a general plan of the scene, the water level, damage to the body, interior, windows, traces of falling objects, the state number of the car. If a tree or other structure falls, you should not immediately remove the debris or move the car unnecessarily — you need to call the police at 102 or 112 so that employees can record the circumstances of the incident and draw up a protocol that can later be used when contacting the insurance company," explained Lysoy.
If there is minimal suspicion that water could get into the engine, you should not try to restart the car, even if the water has already gone and the car looks serviceable. This could significantly increase the scale of damage, the expert warned. The optimal solution is to use a tow truck and deliver the vehicle for diagnosis. Water can damage electronics, control units, wiring, interior elements and in some cases lead to expensive repairs after a while due to contact corrosion.
To reduce risks, when heavy precipitation or storm warnings are forecast, it is important to choose a parking location in advance — do not leave cars in lowlands, near embankments, in places where water regularly accumulates, as well as in underground parking in areas of possible flooding. In strong winds and bad weather, falling branches, trees, facade elements, roofs, bus shelters, fences and other structures are dangerous.
The specialist also recalled that the CTP does not compensate for such cases, since this policy covers only the harm caused by the driver to other road users.
Earlier in the day, Alexander Ilyin, a forecaster at the Meteo-TV forecasting center, said that Muscovites would have a cool and rainy working week, but the weather would improve by the weekend.
