- The State Duma announced attempts to influence the elections through the websites of diplomatic missions
Unfriendly countries use the official websites of their diplomatic missions in the Russian Federation to spread propaganda materials in order to influence the elections. This was announced on June 15 by Vasily Piskarev, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption.
"In the run-up to the elections, the activities of a number of diplomatic missions of unfriendly countries have intensified. Their official Russian—language information resources are used to disseminate propaganda materials and statements discrediting the electoral system and aiming to influence the electoral processes," he said, according to the Telegram channel of the State Duma commission investigating outside interference.
According to him, materials of organizations banned in the Russian Federation are distributed on the pages of the British and German embassies. The participation of foreign diplomats in political events of some parties is also recorded. Piskarev called these actions attempts at gross interference in Russia's internal affairs.
On April 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that no external forces should get a single chance to influence the election results in Russia. The Head of State stressed that any attempts to use the electoral process to destabilize the situation in society would be severely suppressed. According to the Russian leader, the relevant tasks have already been assigned to law enforcement agencies.
