Russian President Vladimir Putin, in congratulating American leader Donald Trump on his 80th birthday on June 14, expressed confidence that their joint efforts would give a new quality to relations between Russia and the United States, as well as help establish global security in the world.

"I am sure that through joint efforts we could really give Russian-American relations a new quality, as well as do a lot to ensure security and stability on the world stage," the text of the telegram is quoted on the Kremlin's website.

Putin noted that he highly appreciates the mutual understanding that has developed between him and Trump, which allows them to speak frankly about the most difficult issues on the bilateral and international agenda. In his message of congratulations, the Russian leader called Trump a bright and outstanding man and politician.

"I sincerely wish you good health, happiness, prosperity and success. Please send my best wishes to [my wife] Melania and all the members of your family," the head of state added at the end of the letter.

According to Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, Putin congratulated Trump on the phone, and the two leaders also had a friendly conversation. Ushakov noted that the call was informal and friendly. Putin, according to him, separately noted Trump's fighting qualities. The US President was touched by the congratulations and drew attention to the fact that the Russian president was the first head of state to call the White House with congratulations.
