Japan called for improved relations with Moscow
Russia and Japan need to work on improving bilateral relations between the countries, especially in the context of the weakening of the United States. This opinion was expressed on June 14 by Shoji Nishida, a deputy from Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
"America is no longer able to control the whole world. We need to think about it calmly, and even if it doesn't happen right away, I think the most important thing is the gradual expansion of friendly relations and mutual support between Russia and Japan," he said in an interview with TASS.
Nishida added that Moscow and Tokyo should get rid of hostility in interstate cooperation and move towards mutually beneficial relations. The deputy also pointed out that in the current energy crisis, Japan would benefit from improving relations with Russia. Nishida also stressed that Russia is geographically the closest country to Japan.
A delegation from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan arrived in Russia on May 26. Masayoshi Arai, Head of the Trade Policy Department of the Ministry of Economy, and Masaki Ishikawa, Deputy Head of the Europe Department, arrived on a working visit to hold meetings at the government level.
Muneo Suzuki, a member of the upper house of the Japanese parliament, told Izvestia on May 4 that it was important for Japan to maintain cooperation with Russia, including in the energy sector, and restore mutual trust. According to him, the Japanese government, in particular Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, firmly adheres to cooperation with the Russian Federation in this area.
