Visa-free entry to Russia for Ukrainian citizens remains in place for humanitarian reasons. This was announced on June 14 by Alexey Klimov, Director of the Consular Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"Taking into account the mentioned humanitarian aspects, the Russian leadership decided to preserve the visa-free entry procedure for Ukrainian citizens to our country. To this end, on September 29, 2023, Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 734 "On the procedure for Entry into and exit from the Russian Federation of Ukrainian Citizens" was issued, which entered into force on the date of signing and remains in force," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The diplomat also pointed out that the agreement on visa-free travel was signed by Kiev and Moscow back in 1997. He noted the presence of relatives among Russians in Ukraine and Ukrainians in the Russian Federation and said that the agreement was important for preserving family ties and ties between peoples. However, the agreement ceased to operate on the Ukrainian initiative in 2023.

Oleg Bondarenko, head of the center for the support of Ukrainian displaced persons in Crimea of the international movement "The Other Ukraine", said on June 12 that Ukrainians who live in Simferopol organized a flash mob in the city on the occasion of the celebration of Russia Day in the country — they released balloons in the colors of the Russian tricolor into the sky. Bondarenko explained that this celebration indicates to the members of his association the revival of a great country, the strengthening of its sovereignty and the development of civil society.
