- It became known about new fraudulent schemes against the background of the 2026 World Cup
Scammers have come up with new schemes of deception against the background of the 2026 World Cup. This was announced on June 14 by Anna Lazaricheva, senior spam analyst at Kaspersky Lab, and Mikhail Lobov, head of the Ozon awareness group.
"Attackers always adapt to the current agenda in order to increase confidence in their schemes. Therefore, against the background of the World Cup, fake ticket sales sites for the event are spreading massively, offers with accommodation and flights at allegedly low prices are multiplying," Lazaricheva said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Lobov, in turn, added that phishing clone sites of popular ticket and streaming services are still considered one of the most popular fraudulent schemes.
"Users are offered to purchase tickets at special prices, urgently confirm their reservation or pay for access to the broadcast, after which they independently enter card details and confirmation codes on fraudulent resources," he said.
Lobov warns that there is a serious risk when clicking on links from search results and ad blocks. Scammers often disguise their resources as "official broadcasts": they achieve high positions in the search results and select names that are almost indistinguishable from the copyright holders' websites.
Experts recommend following a number of safety measures: carefully check the web address before making any payments; in no case transmit SMS codes to third parties; activate two‑factor authentication wherever possible.
To watch sports broadcasts safely, it is better to use the official resources of broadcasters and reliable mobile applications. At the same time, it is optimal to enter such sites in one of two ways: either manually enter the address in the browser, or open them from pre-saved bookmarks. You should not go to websites using links received in emails, instant messengers, or through pop-up advertising banners.
On June 13, the press service of the Moshelovka platform of the Popular Front said that fraudsters offer Russians a fictitious family payment and, under the pretext of "burning" funds, lure victims to phishing sites that visually copy the Gosuslugi portal or the website of the Social Fund of Russia. It is known that the scheme is aimed at families with two or more children. Its relevance in June is related to the real information flow: from June 1, 2026, the Social Fund of Russia began accepting applications for the refund of paid personal income tax — from 13% to 6% for such families. Attackers are actively exploiting this news to increase confidence in their scams.
