In the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), soldiers of the 589th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 27th Guards Motorized Rifle Division of the Center group of forces took part in the unveiling of a monument to their colleagues who died while performing tasks during a special military operation. This was announced on June 14 by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

It was clarified that the memorial was created by the military personnel of the regiment. His 3D model was developed by junior Sergeant Evgeny Odushev, and the construction of the stone monument was carried out by regimental priest Father Vasily.

"The echo of the 1941-1945 war is always in our soul, and to betray is to forget, to forget is to betray. We don't forget. <...> Many people took part in the creation of this memorial. <...> There were many ideas, but we settled on this one. A soldier with a machine gun defending his land," said Andrei Podrezov, deputy commander of the 589th Motorized Rifle Regiment for military and political work.

During the ceremony, the deputy commander of the Center group of forces, Lieutenant General Kirill Kulakov, noted the symbolism of the monument's location, opposite the monument to the soldiers who liberated Donbass during the Great Patriotic War. After that, the distinguished servicemen were awarded state and regimental awards.

The event ended with the laying of flowers and wreaths at the monument. The parade squad also fired a series of shots in memory of those killed in the defense of the Motherland during the SVR.

Earlier, on May 8, in Saransk and Kovylkino of the Republic of Mordovia, monuments were unveiled to servicemen who died in the line of duty in the SVR zone. The Saransk monument on Victory Square depicts a soldier with a machine gun in his hand, behind which a child is hiding, and commemorative plaques with the names of fallen servicemen were placed on the memorial in Kovylkino. Veterans and widows of ITS participants were invited to the opening ceremony, among others.
