On June 13, former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban was re-elected as head of the Fidesz party at the 32nd congress of the political union.

"Viktor Orban has been re-elected chairman of Fidesz. 729 delegates voted for it, eight abstained," said the moderator of the congress, which was broadcast on his YouTube channel by the Hungarian information portal Index.

The former prime minister's candidacy was the only one put forward during the congress. The congress also elected new deputy party leaders and members of the governing council, which will now represent each region of the country. The congress participants also set a course for fundamental changes in the party's program, which was in opposition for the first time in 16 years.

Earlier in the day, Orban said that the Fidesz party had made a number of critical mistakes during the election campaign for the parliamentary elections in May this year, which did not allow it to win the race. Among others, he called the underestimation of the digital information space, where the opposition turned out to be stronger, as well as the unwillingness to deal with trumped-up public accusations of the opposition.
