David Beckham receives a star on the "Walk of Fame" in Los Angeles
Former England midfielder David Beckham has received a star on the Walk of Fame in Los Angeles. This was reported on June 12 by the newspaper El País.
Beckham admitted that what is happening is perceived by him as a dream. According to him, he could never have imagined that an ordinary guy from a working-class neighborhood would be on a par with movie stars.
"There have been many amazing moments in my career, but to be here in Los Angeles and receive a star on the world-famous Walk of Fame is truly incredible. I've always been a dreamer, but I never imagined that such an honor would go to a working-class football player like me... I like the ambition and scale of American sports," Beckham is quoted as saying in the publication.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce website notes that Beckham became the first English footballer to win championships in four countries — England, Spain, the USA and France. His career spanned about 20 years and included appearances for Manchester United, Real Madrid, Milan, Los Angeles Galaxy and PSG, as well as the England national team, of which he was captain for six years.
After retiring in 2013, he became involved in business, media projects and became a co-owner of Inter Miami, which later signed Lionel Messi and won the MLS Cup.
Earlier, Asia News International (ANI) reported on June 2 that a 21-meter statue of football player Lionel Messi had been dismantled in the Indian city of Calcutta. The decision was made after complaints from local residents about the potential danger of the structure.
