Lyudmila Chursina Square to appear in Sestroretsk

A park named after People's Artist of the USSR Lyudmila Chursina will appear in Sestroretsk. This was announced on June 12 by the Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, at the farewell ceremony with the actress.

"Today, the hero city of Leningrad, St. Petersburg, says goodbye to the great actress, Lyudmila Alekseevna Chursina. The whole world knows her, she is a symbol of theater and cinema. <...> In the near future, one of the squares in Sestroretsk will be named after her," Beglov said.

The governor noted that Chursina's high ranks and awards were earned by her talent and hard work. According to him, her films have qualities that have always been dear to St. Petersburg: dignity, fortitude, beauty and pride.

He stressed that Chursina was a bright person, always served the Fatherland, did not accept foreign offers and returned to Leningrad years after the start of her film career.

The famous actress was 84 years old.

Chursina's death at the age of 85 became known on June 10. The artist's entourage said that she died as a result of a long battle with cancer. At the same time, actor Sergei Parshin noted that Chursina had the gift of pleasing the audience and was a universal favorite. Parshin also called the departure of the actress a loss for the whole country.

In a telegram of condolences from the President of Russia, it was stated that Chursina's creative biography serves as an example for all who have decided to devote themselves to the service of culture.
