The artist Chursina was given her last farewell in St. Petersburg with long applause

Residents of St. Petersburg saw off People's Artist of the USSR Lyudmila Chursin with prolonged applause. This was reported on June 12 by a correspondent of Izvestia.

At the farewell ceremony, Milena Avimskaya, director of the Central Academic Theater of the Russian Army, noted that Chursina was a bright, talented and beloved actress by the audience.

"Lyudmila Alekseevna was certainly a real star. A star in the full sense of the word. She was very beautiful, bright, intelligent, extraordinarily talented and very much loved by people. The audience came to our theater to see Lyudmila Alekseevna with great pleasure, they watched performances with her participation several times," she said.

According to Avimskaya, the actress served in the Theater of the Russian Army for 42 years and until recently was actively working on new roles, including the image of Nastasia Filippovna in the production "Idiot".

A wreath from Russian President Vladimir Putin was delivered to the farewell ceremony. Wreaths were also laid from the Russian government, the administration of St. Petersburg, the Legislative Assembly of the city, as well as from the Alexandrinsky Theater and the A. A. Bryantsev Theater for Young Spectators, where the actress served in different years.

The farewell ceremony for the People's Artist of the USSR began earlier in the day at the Transfiguration Cathedral in St. Petersburg. Alexander Beglov, Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Malich, director of the Alexandrinsky Theater, Svetlana Lavretsova, director of the Bryantsev St. Petersburg Theater for Young Spectators, Fyodor Boltin, chairman of the city Committee for Culture, and numerous fans of her work came to see Chursina off.

The famous actress was 84 years old.

Chursina's death at the age of 85 became known on June 10. The artist's entourage said that she died as a result of a long battle with cancer. At the same time, actor Sergei Parshin noted that Chursina had the gift of pleasing the audience and was a universal favorite. Parshin also called the departure of the actress a loss for the whole country.

In a telegram of condolences from the President of Russia, it was stated that Chursina's creative biography serves as an example for all who have decided to devote themselves to the service of culture.
