The Moscow Zoo presented a festive treat to Manul Timofey in honor of his sixth birthday

Timofey Manul from the Moscow Zoo celebrates his sixth birthday on June 11. In honor of the birthday, a festive treat was prepared for the zoo symbol. This was announced on Thursday, June 11, according to the website of the Moscow City Hall.

According to the zoo, manul has already completed his seasonal "fattening up" and lost almost half of his winter weight by summer. "Zazhirovka" and "razzhirovka" are natural processes for manuls. In nature, the fat reserve helps these predators survive a period of food shortage in winter, when hunting becomes more difficult due to deep snow and short paws. In the zoo, the staff supports these processes artificially, Moscow 24 clarifies. In December 2025, the weight of the cat reached 6.5 kg, the website writes kp.ru .

Now his daily diet is about 150-200 grams and includes rodents and quails, he notes 360.ru . In addition, Timofey changed his thick winter fur to a lighter summer one, which acquired a reddish hue.

Manul has been living in the Moscow Zoo since 2021 and is considered one of its most popular inhabitants. This rare predator is listed in the International Red Book, and the manul itself has been a symbol of the Moscow Zoo since 1987, the Moscow City News Agency reports.

In April, the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA) refused to participate in the search for a bride for Manulu Timofey from the Moscow Zoo. Earlier it became known that several European zoos will not be able to help Manul Timofey find a bride.
