- The Three-Penny Premiere concert performance will take place at the A.S. Pushkin Theater
On June 20, at 18:00 on the Main Stage of the Pushkin Moscow Drama Theater, the Threepenny Premiere concert performance will take place, dedicated to Evgeny Pisarev's new play Opera of the Beggars, which is scheduled to premiere on September 17, 18 and 19. The actors, including Maxim Matveev, Alexandra Ursulyak, Elizaveta Kononova, Alexander Matrosov, Anastasia Lebedeva, will acquaint the audience with the history of the creation of Bertolt Brecht's Threepenny Opera, as well as perform musical numbers.
Berlin, 1928. A young adventurer who dreams of opening his own theater turns to Bertolt Brecht with a request to write a play for him. No one knows yet that this play will turn the ideas of theater upside down, conquer the whole world, and reveal Brecht to the Soviet public – Alexander Tairov will release a performance based on it at the Moscow Chamber Theater in 1930.
Evgeny Pisarev (artistic director of the Pushkin Moscow Drama Theater, director): "The story of the creation of the Threepenny Opera is, in a sense, the story of the theatrical revolution that began in Berlin and then swept the whole world. It seemed important to me before the upcoming premiere to immerse myself in the historical context in order to understand how Brecht and Weill managed to create a play that, after almost a hundred years, remains cutting-edge in both form and content.
In addition, we will tell you about how this material first got to the Soviet Union, to the Chamber Theater — for us this is another opportunity to pay tribute to the memory of great predecessors."
