- The Russian Federation called for restraint and negotiations amid the aggravation of the situation around Iran
Moscow is calling on Washington and Tehran to exercise restraint amid the escalating war in Iran. This was announced on June 11 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
"We are concerned about this (escalation of the conflict. — Ed.). We call on all parties to this conflict to exercise restraint. We still call for a return to the negotiation process," he said at a briefing.
Peskov added that another escalation could lead to new negative consequences in the Middle East and further affect the global economy.
On the night of June 11, the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (CENTCOM), on the orders of President Donald Trump, announced the launch of additional strikes against a number of targets in Iran for "self-defense." Air defense systems have been activated in the south of the republic, explosions have occurred on the islands of Qeshm and Hengam.
Iran immediately retaliated against American targets in the Middle East. Thus, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the successful destruction of 18 military targets at American air bases in the region, including the locations of F-15, F-16 and F-35 fighter jets at the Al-Azraq facility in Jordan.
Later, Trump said that senior Iranian officials had asked him to stop bombing targets in the country. Tehran has denied this. Nevertheless, CENTCOM announced the cessation of airstrikes.
